FEATURES The grandfather of psy trance Raja Ram shares his secrets for the Elixir of Life Written by Tara (20th December, 2011) Since the ’60s when he started jazz-fusion Indian rock band Quintessence, Raja Ram has established himself as a leader and inspiration to many. Yet despite studying jazz improvisation in New York under Lenny Tristano, he returned to his native Melbourne to retire. But the jazz world’s loss eventually became dance music’s gain, for his subsequent switch to electronic music and the formation of The Infinity Project was a defining moment in the genesis of what was to become psychedelic trance. NEWS Olympics Kill Big Chill Festival Reported by News Editor (22nd January, 2012) Organisers of Britain’s pioneering boutique festival the Big Chill announced this week that August’s outdoor event has been cancelled, over concerns about the impact London’s upcoming Olympics will have. “Efforts are being made to look to bring a smaller event indoors this year,” a staffer wrote on the site’s Forum, “with the anticipation of Big Chill being back outdoors in 2013,” she added.
