On reflection, 2007 has been a quite extraordinary year for Turnmills’ flagship Saturday night party, TOGETHER. Not only has the infamous club night smashed all attendance records at Turnmills month in month out, but we’ve also received critical acclaim for our groundbreaking and varied line-ups, plus our fetish for fancy dress themes and classic party games!! Although Together is widely regarded as a serious music club… that’s about as far as the serious stuff goes, as the events themselves are anything but serious and there’s been some truly unforgettable moments over the past 12 months!! From the off-the-wall Birthday bash in January, to the mother of all mash-ups with Modular Records in February and arguably the greatest event ever at Turnmills (MSTRKRFT, Green Velvet, Hot Chip, Para One, Klaxons, NYPC, Ajax, Mr C and a live PA from The Gossip did the damage!!) Other notable highlights included an old skool night of electronica with the key players behind UNKLE, Orbital and Leftfield... the double label collaboration with DFA and Karmarouge in August and October’s insane Halloween Rave! All in all, it’s all been rather LARGE. Next up then is TOGETHER NYE on Wednesday 31st December and the biggest night of the year….
With The Chemical Brothers stepping down this year (well, they have done 4 out of the last 5 Together NYE’s!!)… we’re dead chuffed to confirm in their place 3 of the hottest DJ/Producers on the planet. Step forward 2MANYDJS, MYLO and SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO. Not a bad little threesome huh?! Or in other words, could it get any bigger?!
Cracking their Turnmills cherry and headlining this ultimate NYE celebration will be Belgium groove-gurus 2MANYDJS. For a number of years now the Dewaele brothers have been raising the bar on every level possible. As Soulwax, the 2004 album ‘Any Minute Now’ spawned three major singles including ‘E Talking’ and ‘NY Excuse’, whilst unoffical mix compilations ‘As Heard on Radio Soulwax’ became just as legendary. Remixes for LCD Soundsytem, Daft Punk, Gorillaz, The Gossip, Klaxons, Robbie Williams, Justice, New Young Pony Club and Digitalism ALL became dancefloor anthems of the past few summers... at the same time they’ve been touring their Nite Versions show globally (including a recent sell-out UK tour), resulting in a Radio Soulwax documentary – “Part of the Weekend Never Dies”, out at the end of the year. Basically, when it comes to the whole ‘cross-genre mash-up’, NO-ONE does it better than they. Joining 2Manydjs will be another electronic pioneer in the shape of MYLO. It was back in 2004, when the young Scotsman broke through the ranks to become the hottest UK dance artist since The Chems. His debut album ‘Destroy Rock & Roll’ was famously made on his computer in his bedroom and two years of extensive touring followed, with the sinlges ‘Drop the Pressure’, ‘Destroy Rock & Roll’, ‘In My Arms’ and ‘Muscle Car’ all hitting the heady heights in the charts. Since then, Myles has kept his head down, working on new material for release next year and his debut DJ set at Turnmills towers should be the perfect place to roadtest a few choice new cuts to the Together faithful. Next up will old friends SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO. In ‘Attack Decay Sustain Release’, the SMD boys have released one of the best albums of the year, backing that up with one of the ‘must-see’ live shows to boot, and a sell-out UK tour. SMD are touring with The Chemical Brothers throughout December, before they call in at Together to play the all important and super exclusive MIDNIGHT SET. Their last appearance in August was one of the most talked about sets of 2007 – so heaven knows what will happen come midnight as they bring in the New Year SMD-styliee!?!?
But why stop there...? With 12 Hours of Madness to revel/rejoice in, there’s plenty more of the good stuff courtesy of Together’s elite residents. Leading the charge will be acid house squadron leader and all-round hero JUSTIN ROBERTSON. He’s been Together’s numero uno since day dot and yet every month he still continues to amaze us with his spooky whipped techno and dapper hats!! We love JR!! We also love co-resident ANIL CHAWLA, who’s risen through the ranks to become one of the scene’s hottest new players. Look out for a debut artist album on Global Underground in the new year. Next up we have the STREETLIFE DJS - our exclusive new Together residents for 2008. The guys will take over T2 on a bi-monthly basis, bringing their special blend of cut-up mixes and rare re-edits to the floor. The October launch party with Ed Banger’s SebastiAn, Riton and Miss Odd Kidd was a classic example of the quality on offer, and there’s plenty more where that came from looking ahead to next year. So then, the Streetlife DJs will be hosting their ‘Streetlife Sessions’ in the backroom with a cool collection of Together faves joining in the fun. It’s all about the DJ tag-teams with Zane Lowe’s protege’s UNCLE BUCK flexing their rock’n’rave muscle alongside our friends from the north, RIOTOUS ROCKERS. Jack Digitals head honco AUDIO JACKERS set the early pace, whilst one of our big tips for the top in 2008, DEVILS GUN unleash their ‘Sound System’ and plenty more rawkus-ness.
In true Together fashion, the fun and games don’t just stop there though. Oh no sister. Upstairs in the ‘anything-goes’ Topfloor room we hand the party baton over to the Together All-Stars Vs Hoxton We Have a Problem who’ll be spinning “The Greatest NYE Party Soundtrack in the World... EVER!!” Sounds like a plan. If you like that, then you’ll love the FREE Jelly & Ice Cream and the prospect of playing classic party games like musical statues, giant Twister and Play your Cards Right, with more great prizes up for grabs!! Guiding you through this onslaught of hits will be DJs THE SCARLET PIMP, MANNEQUIN DOLL, 10:4 RUBBER DUCKIE, NIKOLAS ESSELLE, STYLISH RIOTS, ANDY PEYTON and FISK. Phew!
Looking ahead to next year, Together will be coming to a club near YOU, as we present a series of special one-off dates around the UK. Further a field, catch us on the piste at Snowbombing 2008 as we bring the full bag of Together tricks to the white slopes of Mayrhofen, Austria. And if you simply want more, more, MORE – then head to www.together-club.co.uk/podcast.asp and download over 30 FREE DJ Mixes as part of our exclusive Together Podcast series. N.I.C.E.
