Who's Your Daddy ? - Review

Reported by trace / Submitted 22-04-02 16:37

A Club called Detention, a night called Who's Your Daddy and a naked kiwi on the flyer? How could you miss it?

I had been looking forward to another Who's Your Daddy? Party since their stomping night last November. If its wasn't for the problems with venues - I'm sure the promoters wouldn't have made us wait so long ????? Anyone who has ever been to a Who's Your Daddy? must surely have emailed Bill at least once with the niggling plea, you can't show us how great it can be and then just disappear, well disappear they did not & Who's Your Daddy? are back and as on top of it as ever!

Having gone to the first Who's Your Daddy about a year ago I must say it definitely rates as one of my favourites, the crowd is just big enough to create an awesome atmosphere but not so teeming that you feel lost! It's about as close to an underground party that you're going to see in main stream clubbing, and you can see by the DJ's enthusiasm that they enjoy being let loose to assault this crowd with hard fast dance.

Who's Your Daddy's new venue, Detention in Oxford Circus, is smaller than their previous venue and holds about 200 people, but don’t let size put you off - during Tara Reynolds & Si's set the atmosphere rivalled that of any big club ! We arrived just in time to catch the chilled out beats of Stretch who was progressively building up the tempo. A talented DJ who has played for Fevah at Match Made in Heaven; and who I am sure will become a regular face behind the decks in the hard dance scene in London. Unfortunately, I missed Tom Allen (from HarderFaster)'s set, due to drinks beforehand having me stumble around Oxford Circus! But I have it from the men in the know, that not only is he a talented photographer but pretty nifty behind the wheels of steel as well. Next on was Marc French, who once again proved what makes him so popular in the early hours at XLR8 and those hot parties at Heat.

One of the highlights of the night was once again seeing Tara Reynolds behind the decks, its amazing to see her stir the crowd tune after tune into a frenzy of high spirits. A dextrous dame on da decks, who mixes with flair, enjoys it and has the whole crowd stomping for more! Following Tara and having to fill the shoes of closing legend Phil Reynolds, was Si Grant. By this stage the party was in full swing and Si did an awesome job of adding fuel to the already burning crowd! By the end of his set you could see the crowd was pumped up & ready to go for a few more hours. Watch out for this up and coming DJ - it's great to see smaller promoters like Who's Your Daddy? be a launch pad for DJ's like Si & Stretch who are not only talented but because they love what they do, their enthusiasm is contagious.

Bill & Reon, a great night - the naked DJ, Pappa Beats would be proud! Rog - with that artistic posing, I don’t know about a modelling career but I'm sure there's something big in the cards.

Be sure to punish yourself and get down to Detention on the 24th May for another stomping night of hard house and hard dance with the WYD crew. You can always pay your penance on Sunday at Sunday School.
