Twisted Logic @ Liquid Bar, Newcastle 7/4/04 review

Reported by GeordieLee / Submitted 15-04-04 11:57

Twisted Logic is the newest in a long line of midweek nights to come to Newcastle. Based at Liquid Bar in the city’s Bigg Market, it offers an alternative to the cheesy chart and ‘barcore’ that litters the bars and clubs. With residents Alex Williams, MK-X and Jim Craik playing deep house, trance and tech-trance, the monthly Wednesday get together could make week nights in Newcastle so much more appealing.

And, if the debut night is anything to go by, Twisted Logic will change things for the better. Liquid probably has the best sound system of any bar in Newcastle and on this particular night, it was put to very good use indeed. The bar is big and spacious as well, meaning there is plenty of room to dance (this also meant a lack of seating, although whether this is good or bad, I’ll leave to you to decide). The DJ Box is close enough to help add to the atmosphere as well.

First up was a deep house set from Williams, starting with Lance Desardi – Boing, including Triple Shot - Close The Door Behind You, JT Donaldson - Let It Ride and Matt J – Shapeshifter before ending with De'Lacy - Hideaway [Deep Dish Mix]. It was a good warm up for the evening’s events.

By the time MK-X took to the decks, the bar was becoming busier and so was the dance floor. It continued to go that way as tunes such as Traveller – Brightsign, Oakenfold - Zoo York and Electravoya – Whispers really started to liven the place up.

The people, who moments earlier were standing there drink in hand, were now starting to get into the lovely trance that was being played. Indeed, it was nice to hear it on a sound system as good as this, even though most people agreed that the sound was too loud overall. Something the promoters have promised to sort out for next month.

Credit must go to all three DJ’s on the night for pulling in so many punters and keeping them entertained throughout. However, the set of the night had to be Craik’s. MK-X had put the Twisted Logic crowd in the mood but it was Craik who took it to another level. The atmosphere built as each tune was dropped. DK - Murder was the bass, Jens - Loops and Tings, Marco V – Revolt and DJ Elite - That Fuct Camera were just some of the tunes that got almost everyone there up dancing. It was certainly the highlight of the night for me and many others and it was a set to be proud of.

The first Twisted Logic ended on a classic tune, voted by punters on a message board in the days before the event, and Tiesto's in search of sunrise remix of Delirium – Silence proved to be an excellent choice. How did I know? The smiling faces and the hands in the air as the night came to a close said it all.

If the Twisted Logic crew can pull this off every month and sort out the sound problems, it will prove to be very impressive indeed.
