WiLDCHiLD Preview - Interview with JFK

Reported by Wild Angel / Submitted 29-09-04 16:20

The one they call the JFK has spent the last decade supporting the World’s Trance Scene with globe-trotting, cheer leading, genre defining, awe-inspiring DJ performances that have gained this legend an army of adoring fans!

There’s no doubt about the fact that JFK’s been a busy boy lately, taking major steps in his career and still fulfilling a hectic DJing schedule! We caught up with him to find out how things are going in the life of dance music’s favourite president…

1. Jason, you’re playing an exclusive 2 hour set at WiLDCHiLD at the forthcoming ‘Battle Of The South Part 2’ event @ Heaven on Friday 1st October. Apart from the usual JFK antics behind the decks, what can we expect to see from you there?
What do you mean usual JFK antics… me in a night club with antics…. With my reputation? I will have you know I am a serious heads down DJ who never interacts with the crowd what so ever!!!! . . . . Joking aside, I cant wait to play for 2 hours @ Wildchild! I’ve been putting a lot of thought into the programming of the set and hope to deliver every Trance fans dream set!

JFK DJ at WiLDCHiLD

2. What record is definitely going to be getting a spin during your set?
My new track with Mike Koglin called “Relentless” is tearing dancefloors apart, Matt Hardwick told me he played it at Creamfields and everyone went mad to find out what it was!!!

As for the rest of the set you’ll just have to wait and see!

3. You’ve featured in every WiLDCHiLD event since their launch back in November 2002. What can you say has been the highlight for you there?
Reecey boys flip flops!! How can a grown man, or should I say how can an over grown man really be taken seriously wearing flop flips in a night club… leave it out! . . . . . . Wildchild has burst onto the scene with so much energy I think it’s taken everyone in the industry by surprise. The event itself is wholly based around fun and the music policy is positioned very cleverly to offer everything from Trance to Hard Dance, House to Classics & Anthems. It caters fro everyone and is truly different from most club events.

4. Some major changes have been made by you recently and after being with the Serious DJ agency for 4 years, you’ve moved to new agency on the block ‘BiggerBetterLouder’. Can you tell us a little about the change and what it was that appealed to you about BBL?
BBL come up with a package that included looking to consistently further my profile and be on hand as a one on one management team, between DJ & agent. I’m really looking forward to the new challenge of this next chapter in my career.

5. Another major change was your recent departure from Passion after being promoter and resident there for 10 years. This obviously came as a big shock to some people, so can you tell us a little about the change and why you felt it something you had to do?
I have to be fair and cant really talk about Passion as its wouldn’t be professional.

All I can say is that we had a difference in the way we wanted to take the business forward.

I will never forget the days @ Passion and the loyal fans who will remain a part of me and the club forever.

6. You’re now the newly appointed Musical Director for Gatecrasher, being based in Sheffield and looking after their events. Does it differ in any way from Passion and can us you tell how you’re finding it up there even further north?
It differs greatly from Passion, things are done @ Gatecrasher on a much larger scale, for example the company has a board of directors to make a lot of the key decisions.

How am I finding it up north? Fucking COLD!!!

7. So, can you fill us in on any Gatecrasher secrets, any special events coming up, he he?? Come on, you can tell us, we won’t tell anyone!
No I know you wont tell anyone, cause I ain’t gonna tell ya, you will be the first
to know when the time is right!!

There are some exciting prospects in the pipeline that will certainly make the
infamous Lion roar!

8. We’ve heard there’s a rather special 3 disc album on it’s way from the Nukleuz stable and that you’ve got your name on one of them! Can you give us a run down on what’s looking likely to be one of the biggest selling dance albums this year?

We its got some of my favourite old tracks on as well as more recent favourites, this album will blow you away.. I cant wait for the release.

Days and nights have been spent slaving away to create this piece of Trance History.

9. Any inside information on any of the tracks that you’ve included??!!
All are huge tracks….. you will have to wait and see. It hits the shops on Monday 27th September 2004. If you don’t get the chance to buy one come and find me @ Wildchild and ask nicely!

10. You’ve had great success on your own production front, with club stormers such as ‘Good God’ and ‘Phoenix Rising’. Have you got any new material in the pipeline?

I’m getting right back into the production buzz at the moment. The brand new single with Mike Koglin “Relentless” is out very soon. I have more production with Mike Koglin planned to follow up the first single.

Myself and Reece keep talking about doing some stuff together too, watch this space. . . . . . . . .

11. You are without a doubt one of the busiest Dj’s on the circuit, fulfilling bookings across the country from North to South, and spending numerous hours in the car driving! What are the easiest and hardest places to travel to?

Cornwall is definitely the hardest on a bank holiday weekend… nightmare,

The easiest place has to be anywhere I can get a cab to.. great!

12. Do you have a favourite…
Football team? Manchester United, (Member)
Food? (Free)
Drink? Alcohol… no preference
Car? Audi A6
Pastime? Watching my son grow up.. priceless

JFK, thanks for your time. Thumbs up
