Dave Joy's all-conquering Joyride Music imprint returns for another crack of the whip, this time snapping up Euro-hard trancer Alien Threat by Dutch-based Bas & Ram, a duo who have been ever present in 2006.
The Original Mix is up first, and any fans of Scot Project's style should probably check this immediately as will be right up your street. Opening with all guns blazing, the track powers through crunching stabs and staccatoed riffs into a breakdown which does indeed sound like it has come right from the Scot Project camp - think a big euphoric melody, sinister vocals and a huge sweeping anthemic string sequence. It does sound a little cheap, particularly when Scot Project's style is considered inimitable, however that isn't to say that it'll certainly kick hard on the dancefloors and will be perfect peak-time material for fans of the Germanic sound.
On the flip, Swiss-based DJ Sequence turns out a more reserved remix, reworking the melodies and sprinkling them with an ever-so slight hint of fromage. Although it lacks the raw energy of the A, this remix is a perfect compliment to the original and should go on to be a staple diet of the more harder-edged trance DJ over the next few weeks.
Nothing terribly anthemic on offer here but a good, solid release from Joyride and with some huge anthems in the pipeline, this is a label to watch in 2007.
